Hello and welcome back to school!  I am grateful that everyone had a safe weekend. Although we have a focus letter of the week, we visit each letter and sound each day. Please know that the chidren must recognize the letter by sight, name the sound as well as hear the sound. The essential question that I ask each day is, "Why do you need to know all letters and sounds?" Their response is,"So that we can read and write."  If you notice mispelled words on papers...that is great. The children are encouraged to phonetically spell. If they are in the near vicinity and can tell me what they wrote then I am excited.

We listen to stories each day and discuss the characters, setting and sequence events. The chidren have immensely enjoyed Frog and Toad! Please continue to practice writing names, letters and numerals correctly.

In math we are continuing to work on recognizing numerals, rote counting, skip counting, counting objects and writing the number, and identifying which group has more, less or equal.

Letter of the Week: T t

Key Words: a, my, the, A, My, The, I, like, it

Thanks for all that you do to make your child successful at JME!

Well we have made it to the second full week of school. The first few weeks are always a big adjustment for Kindergarten students. Pretty soon we will be in our routine.

Last week we focused on the letters Ll. This week it is the letters Oo. The children are expected to recognize, write and say the sound for the letters. Soon the children will be sounding out words and writing words if they are not already. I have informally introduced the first words(a, my, the).

Don't forget about the school dance on Friday. Hope to see you there!
